In conjunction with the 44th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., The Rev. Dr. James Forbes, Jr., the Harry Emerson Fosdick Distinguished Professor at New York’s Union Theological Seminary and Rev. Stephen Phelps, the Interim Senior Minister of The Riverside Church will host “Call-To-Order for Jobs,” a strategic national jobs initiative today 5:30 p.m.
44 years after the death of Dr. King, jobs are still the number one issue in America. At the event, a forgotten – but major – part of his dream will be brought back to life. Jobs. “Call-To-Order for Jobs” will feature a host of labor, business, interfaith, political and community leaders for a worship event that will include a solution-finding panel discussion led by renown journalist George Curry; in addition to prayer, music and dance.
Ana Garcia-Ashley, Executive Director of the Gamaliel Foundation, a worldwide faith-based, grassroots organization created to empower ordinary people; and Rev. Paul Sherry, national jobs advocate and Director of the D.C. Office of Interfaith Worker Justice, will participate on the panel.
The Coalition’s goal is to mobilize churches, industries — both public and private, local governments and Congress to lobby for a comprehensive jobs solution by August 28th, 2013 – the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington; to make jobs a priority in the American consciousness.
The event is the Nave of The Riverside Church, 490 Riverside Drive (bet. 120th & 122nd Sts.), Morningside Heights.
